It is the oldest temple in Kamakura, built in 734.
It was built 500 years before the Kamakura Shogunate was established .

② There is the " Eleven-Headed Kannon bodhisattva " created by Jikaku Daishi. Jikaku Daishi is also known as "Ennin. "

③ There is the " Eleven-Headed Kannon bodhisattva" created by Eshin Sozu . Eshin Sozu is also known as " Genshin ."
It is a national important cultural property .
The three "Eleven-faced Kannon" statues are "secret Buddhas" and are behind doors, so they cannot usually be viewed.
However, they can be viewed on the 1st and 18th of every month.
It is said that if you visit the shrine on the day of the 46,000-day festival , which is held every year on August 10th , you will receive blessings worth 46,000 days .
According to a story told at the temple,
during the Kamakura period, a fire broke out. The three eleven-faced Kannon statues took refuge under a large cedar tree. This is why the temple came to be called the "Cedar Tree Kannon."
The main hall has a thatched roof and is a designated cultural property of Kanagawa Prefecture .
It is said to have been donated by Minamoto no Yoritomo (the first Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate) and to have been made by Unkei .

Of the two Jizo Bodhisattvas on the left side of the main hall, the one on the right is the Nisyogun Jizo Bodhisattvas .

This is number 6 of the 24 Jizo statues in Kamakura .
② The Jizo on the left is a "Migawari Jizo Bodhisattvas ."
There are two Migawari Jizo bodhisattvas, one in the main hall and one outside the main hall . The other Migawari Jizo Bodhisattvas is Ⓖ. Ⓖ is number 4 of the 24 Jizo statues in Kamakura .
This is a Niomon gate with a thatched roof .
The Nio statues (Kongo Rikishi statues) at the Niomon Gate are said to have been made by Unkei in the 18th century .

They have a more powerful impact when viewed up close.
Currently, you cannot climb the moss stairs.
You can climb up the "new stairs" on the left.
Looking at the moss-covered green stairs, you can sense the length of 1,200 years of history .
There is a shrine dedicated to "Hakusan Daigongen"(shinto shrine) and " Kumano Daigongen"(shinto shrine).

There are seven Jizo statues lined up . The one on the far right is the " Migawari Jizo." This is number 4 of the 24 Jizo bodhisattva in Kamakura .

" Sugimoto Yoshimune " is the man who built "Sugimoto Castle " behind Sugimoto Temple .
This is a memorial tower to mourn Shiba Ienaga (a subordinate of Ashikaga Takauji and the lord of Sugimoto Castle at the time) and his retainers, who were defeated in a war during the Nanboku-cho period .
According to the legend of the temple, if you worship here you will be blessed with enough wealth to build a large storehouse .
