There is Hondo(a main hall)

This temple was built in 1436 on the site of the Ebisu-do(Hall) built by Minamoto no Yoritomo (the first Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate), and was built by Ashikaga Mochiuji (the governor of the Kamakura Shogunate) who invited Ichijo Nisshutsu (a Nichiren school monk from the Muromachi period ) to be the first chief priest .

It is said that after Nichiren was exiled to Sado Island, he stayed temporarily in the Ebisu-do(Hall) of Honkakuji Temple here .
Nichiren ... A Buddhist monk from the Kamakura period.
(Shigou(posthumous name)a name used to praise the deeds of nobles, monks, etc. in life: Nichiren Daibosatsu, Rissho Daishi) 
He was the first person to preach the Nichiren sect (Hokke school) .

The second head priest, Nitcho Shonin , was famous for his eye treatment, so Honkakuji Temple is called " Nitcho-sama . "
At that time, a part of Nichiren's bone was given to the temple from Mt. Minobu and enshrined there, so it is also called Higashi Minobu .

It is the head temple of the Nichiren sect .

 It is a cultural asset designated by the city of Kamakura.

It is built in the "Ura Kimon " (southwest) of the Kamakura Shogunate .Because the Ura Kimon was considered to be an evil direction, Minamoto no Yoritomo enshrined the " Ebisu God" of the Seven deities of good luck to protect the Shogunate .

Ebisu-do(hall) was rebuilt in 1981.The previous Ebisu-do(hall) was separated into a temple and a shrine by the Shinbutsu Bunri-rei during the Meiji period.

It is divided into two temples: ➀ Ebisu-do(hall) (located in Hongakuji Temple. Rebuilt in 1981) andEbisu Shrine (located near the former Kamakura Police Station. This is the former Ebisu-do(hall)).

Ebisu, one of the Seven deities of good luck in Kamakura, is present.


 

There is Sanmon(gate) 

This gate was built during the Edo period.


 

There is Shoro (bell tower) 

It was built in 1410.
It is said that the bell was inherited by the first head priest , Nisshutsu Shonin , after he won a dispute at the head temple of Hachimangu Shrine in Kisarazu .
It is a cultural property designated by the city of Kamakura .


 

There is Nichiren ossuary .

" Some of Nichiren's bones were given to us from Mount Minobu ," and these bones are enshrined here.


 

⑥ There is the grave of Goro Masamune Okazaki.

Masamune : A master craftsman of Japanese swords in the late Kamakura period.
He is also known as Goro Nyudo Masamune, Okazaki Masamune, and Okazaki Goro Nyudo.
He established a style of sword making known as the "Sosyuden tradition"

The name "Masamune" became synonymous with Japanese swords.


 

There is crape myrtle

There is a Crape Myrtle tree that is said to be over 100 years old .

Red flowers bloom in September.

It is a deciduous medium-sized tree of the Lythraceae family in the genus Crape myrtle.

The flower language is "eloquence," "charm," and "carelessness."

It is also known as crape myrtle.The name "crape myrtle" was apparently given to it because its bark is so smooth that even monkeys slip off it.
It is also known as crape myrtle because it blooms for a long period of time.
The material is hard and heavy, so it is used for railroad ties and other things.
