This shrine enshrines Hino Toshiki, who was known for his academic excellence .

 

 

During the Kamakura period, Hino Toshiki was an aide to Emperor Godaigo and was trusted by him because he excelled in academics from a young age .
 He was therefore active in rebuilding the Kamakura Shogunate, but was captured by the Shogunate and executed at Kuzuharaoka.

In the Meiji era, Emperor Meiji praised Hino Toshiki's work as " the forerunner of the Meiji Restoration experienced by Emperor Meiji." It is said that for this reason, Kuzuharaoka Shrine was built to enshrine Hino Toshiki .
