It was built in 1083.
When Shinra Saburo Yoshimitsu (the younger brother of Minamoto no Yoshiie, also known as Hachiman Taro, and ancestor of Minamoto no Yoritomo) went to war in Oshu, an epidemic was spreading in Kamakura.
that was founded when the god of Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto prefecture was asked to be part of the shrine and enshrined there in order to calm the epidemic .
The shrine was called " Satake Tenno" after it was enshrined with a shrine that worshiped the Satake clan, descendants of Shinra Saburo Yoshimitsu.
Eventually, due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism, it came to be called " Yakumo Shrine. "

This shrine was built to protect from misfortune .
In Kamakura, it is called " Yakumo-san " or " Otenno-san . "
It is the oldest shrine in Kamakura for protect from misfortune .
It is located at the base of the sacred tree .
There are two large round stones which Shinra Saburo Yoshimitsu is said to have lifted in a test of strength .
This is a modified version of the Olympic cauldron that was used during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics .
① January 6th: Hatsu Kagura
② January 15th: Sagicho Shinzi Ritual,
③ March 24th: Shinnen Festival
④ First of every month: Gesshu Festival
⑤ 15th of every month: Tsuki-narmi Festival
⑥ 3 days from the 2nd Saturday of July: Regular annual Festival
⑦ November 24th: Niiname festival.
(These festivals are planned to be held during normal times when there is no risk of typhoons or infectious diseases.)
Among them, the annual festival is known as the "Kamakura Gion Omachi Festival".
At this festival, four portable shrines are paraded. ( It is said that these shrines were made in the Edo period.)
There is also a "mikoshi-kuguri" ritual, where people hold their children and pass under them to pray for their healthy growth.
