It is said that Minamoto no Yoritomo (the first Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate) built this shrine after receiving a prophecy in a dream in 1185.

Hojo Tokiyori (the 5th Regent of the Kamakura Shogunate) " wished money in the holy water that springs up at this shrine in hopes of prosperity for his clan ," and soit is said that washing money in this holy water will bring good fortune .

The shop sells eggs (5 eggs)
You walk around the shrine offering the eggs as you go .

This is because " Ugajin" is said to be a god with a snake's body and a human head.
Therefore, eggs, which are a snake's favorite food, are offered to him.

At the time when disasters continued, ”Ugajin”appeared in Minamoto no Yoritomo's dream pillow on the snake year, snake month, snake day, and snake hour. He told him that there was a sacred water in the northwest direction, and that if he offered this water to the gods and Buddha, the world would become a better place.
It is said that for this reason, he enshrined Ugajin Benzaiten .

Once every 60 days in a year (Tsuchitomi no Hi) is a day when financial luck is particularly good , and has been designated as a festival day for Benzaiten .
It is said that visiting the shrine on January, the first day of April, and the grand festival day in September will bring you particular luck with money .

  Thre is a sacred spring called "zeniarai mizu"(money washing water)

There is a sacred spring called " Zeniaraimizu" ( Money washing water).
This is one of the "Five Famous Springs of Kamakura" .

How to wash:
1. Borrow a colander from the shrine office.
2. Place your money on the colander, then use a ladle to scoop up the holy water and pour it over the money three times.
3. As you wash and purify the money, pray for good fortune.
